This documentary follows Anitra Jones, founder of Carol's House of Refuge, a Detroit-area youth nonprofit built on faith, loss, and an unshakeable belief that every young person deserves someone in their corner. Named in honor of her mother, Carol's House of Refuge serves young people navigating trauma, instability, mental health struggles, and the kind of circumstances that can make the future feel impossible.
Anitra's story doesn't start in ministry — it starts in boardrooms and achievement and a growing sense that none of it was enough. Her interview is candid, personal, and occasionally goes exactly where it needs to go rather than where it was planned. That's what makes it work.
Pastor Brian opens and closes the film, providing context for the impact Anitra has made — not just on the young people she serves, but on the fabric of the community around her. The goal was simple: let real people tell a real story. Warm, unhurried interviews are woven together with footage of daily life at the facility — creating a video that feels authentic rather than produced. The kind of content that builds trust before a family ever picks up the phone.
